Dear biathlon Friends,
The Estonian Biathlon Federation is pleased to be
welcoming you to the IBU's 2010 European
Championships in Otepää.
This winter's competition will be of great importance
to the development of Estonian biathlon.
We hosted
the summer world championships to great success in
2007, and the tracks that were
used for that
competition at the Tehvandi Sports Centre in Otepää
|
|
have since been rendered
multifunctional.
Thanks to this, biathlon teams from a number of countries have started undertaking their summer
training here.
Our dream of organising international winter competitions here in Otepää has now become reality.
Hosting the European Championships in Estonia will hopefully give us the chance at world series
events and enable us to vie to hold the world championships here.
Otepää has long been, and will long remain, Estonia's winter capital. Sports flows in the blood here,
and the world's best biathletes are sure to receive a warm reception from the locals.
We look forward to sharing the excitement of these championships with you. The events being held
here between 1 and 7 March will help boost the popularity of biathlon in Estonia and bring it to a
much wider audience. We will also have an unprecedented opportunity to promote Estonia to the
rest of the world through the international broadcast of the event.
I wish all the competitors the best, and of course a good deal of speed and accuracy. Don't forget
to take some time out between events to rest and enjoy yourselves in the stunning natural
environment of our little town. Welcome to Otepää!
I hope the competition brings you success, and that it brings everyone some truly unforgettable
memories.
